Easter update
This month’s update will be an interesting one for visitors who are interested in words and music and have heard the free downloads of Sounds Like in concerts at St Pancras Old Church, London.

The site currently presents earlier collaborations between James Gordon and Edward Lee in the music groups CMU and Trident. But this update highlights another long-term collaboration.

In the Aspects of Love concert, Edwin Webb joined the Sounds Like team, or more precisely he re-joined the group. In fact he and Edward Lee had collaborated for many years in words and music performances. A high point of these took place on 2 February 1982 at Garnett College, Roehampton, London. The results can be heard in the new update.

The recordings also feature impressive performances by reader and guitarist, Felix Cross and multi-instrumentalist Cormac Loane . In this concert the group proves that poetry which is uncompromising in its language and technique can nevertheless be made accessible and indeed extremely entertaining as the response of the audience shows.

Easter is coming...
This month there is another update. As we are in Lent, the theme is Easter. On the Sibelius site (http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/index.php?sm=account.details&uid=123464)
there is The Lament of Mary Magdalene and a new posting, a version for amateur orchestra of the Easter Overture (Festival Pasquale). The original version of this, with information about it, can be heard and downloaded free by going to Westminster Reels on this site -it's the third track. Accompanying these entries is a new blog about Easter and the music -just click on Blog.

Next month, there will be something very different !

First update of 2010
There are now updates to the various websites.

On this occasion it’s very much a look back to the past.

The story of CMU ends with the breakup of the group and the formation of a new band, Trident. They recorded four singles, which were never released. But they are arguably still songs which can get over to a modern audience. If any band agrees and would like to learn them, I shall be very glad to hear about it.

Even earlier is the music of the Oxford University Big Band. Though definitely big band jazz, there were some interesting developments and also some excellent solos. Again, I would be very interested to hear from people who remember the time. Over the next few months the aim is to make this a spot where people can come and reminisce.

more updates
Meanwhile, there is plenty of work in progress, which will appear over the next few months.

The teaching website (http://www.edwardleemusicteaching.co.uk/downloads.html)
has more theory material and a new guitar piece. There is also an audio file of the Trident song “Spring is Here” (well, someone has t be optimistic !

On the Sibelius site, (http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/index.php?sm=account.details&uid=123464)
for those involved with amateur orchestras, there is the score of Mr Farriner’s Ball, for lower level and intermediate players. This was performed in December by the Learning Orchestra of London, under that direction of David Evans, and was well received.
